Originally built in the 1940s as a sailboat factory, this unique structure was converted into a residence in the 1950s by artist couple Austin Mecklem and Marianne Appel. Together, they raised two daughters in this home. a space overflowing with creativity and artistic legacy.
The layout is a rare open design for the era, with four bedrooms upstairs and evidence of a life fully lived, like worn cowboy boot marks on the wooden staircase. I honored the original character and charm while upgrading the home to meet modern comfort: radiant two story floor heating, a jacuzzi tub on the terrace, and structural insulation fit for the deep winters of Woodstock.
